Defragmenting: The second coming

When you run Defraggler, it can’t move files that are in use, mainly your page file and your registry. Page file is used when your computer runs out of memory. It is reserved space on the hard drive for “slow” memory. In comparison, your memory is much much faster to read and write to than your page file is. One thing that helps the page file be as fast as it can is to keep it sequential. The same goes for the registry. Read more after the jump
Microsoft released a utility called PageDefrag (download here) What this program will do is run a CHKDSK (check disk) the next time you boot and then defrag the page file and the registry before the computer has a chance to use it. What you want to do after the install is select the defrag at next boot. There is no need to defrag on every boot. Defragging your page file and your registry will ensure that your computer is running at its full potential. Happy Defragging!

I’ve been checking out Diskeeper09 and been bowled over. Never seen such thorough and fast defrags. Ran it on all my drives without a single hitch. Planning to upgrade.
