Uninstall and startup

by Rohit on Apr.20, 2009, under Computer Repair

When you get a lot of useless programs on your computer, it takes a toll on your boot times and could take up precious disk space. To remedy this its time to return to CCleaner. It has two very useful tools that I didn’t go over before. The first is an uninstall utility that trumps Window’s built in utility. The other is a very nice start up configuration utility that lets you stop unimportant programs from starting when you turn on your computer. More after the jump.

If you’re like me, I install programs impulsively and then forget about them and the next thing I know, its taking my computer three minutes to start up. The first that you want to do is open up CCleaner again, if you haven’t run a clean in a while, this is a good time to do that. Next click on tools. You will see Unistall and Startup. You can scroll through your installed programs and uninstall anything that you don’t need. After you are done uninstalling, its good practice to restart. That will also give you a chance to see what is in startup that you don’t need.

For the startup utility return to the tools in CCleaner and look at what is starting when you turn on your computer. Its safer to disable the program instead of just deleting it. CCleaner is reading what is starting up from the registry and deleting things could mess up your registry. That’s a bad thing. After you are done removing programs from startup you can give your computer another restart and you should notice much faster boot times.
